Former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov found former two-division titleholder Georges St-Pierre’s prediction of victory against him intriguing and hinted at the possibility of a superfight in 2020.
Nurmagomedov retired from MMA four years ago with an impeccable record, culminating in a victory over Justin Gaethje via second-round arm triangle submission in their title unification bout.
Despite St-Pierre hinting at a potential fight, Nurmagomedov remains firm in his retirement decision, expressing interest in coaching over active competition. St-Pierre disclosed his readiness for a fight this week immediately after his gloves were removed, jokingly stating he floated off the ground.
St-Pierre mentioned, “I think I could beat Khabib. I’m not saying I could beat him every time, but I was confident on that day. I’m probably wrong, but I felt confident going into that fight.”
“If he pressured me, I would have beaten him, that’s for sure,” St-Pierre reflected. “I like to take risks, and I believe I would have emerged victorious. I have fought everyone and I have come out on top.”

Nurmagomedov shared his sentiments on St-Pierre’s confident claim of defeating him, acknowledging St-Pierre as his late father and Abdulmanap’s favorite MMA fighter. He found it “interesting” to hear such remarks from the former champion.
“Learning a lot from this guy (Georges St-Pierre),” Khabib Nurmagomedov posted on his official X account. “It’s fascinating to hear him discuss me. GSP all the way.”
