Renowned trainer Robert Garcia has expressed his willingness to coach Errol Spence in his upcoming fights. Garcia believes that he has the expertise to assist Spence, who recently parted ways with his long-time coach Derrick James after his defeat to Terrence Crawford.

Errol Spence, a former unified welterweight champion, is being considered as one of the potential opponents for WBC/WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora. If Spence faces Fundora, he may need to work on reducing his weight as he appears heavier currently.

Garcia suggests that Spence should start shedding weight early to avoid wasting precious training time on weight loss during his camp.

New Training Approach for Spence

“If Errol Spence reaches out to me, I would be open to discussing the possibility of training him,” stated Robert Garcia in an interview with 210 boxing. Garcia sees it as a challenge and an opportunity to provide Spence with a different training experience.

Reflecting on his success with former boxer Marcos Maidana, Garcia believes that Spence could benefit from a change of environment, such as training in a Mexican boxing gym.

Garcia aims to enhance Spence’s existing skills and equip him with new techniques required to face Fundora and other opponents in the 154-pound division.

“Spence already possesses remarkable skills and strength, being regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters globally. It’s about refining those skills further,” Garcia remarked.

Spence will need to prepare diligently for his potential fight with Fundora, considering Fundora’s victories over Tim Tzu and Eriksson Rubin in 2022. Garcia is keen on discussing the training plans with his team to ensure Spence is well-prepared for the challenge ahead.
