Henry Garcia, Ryan Garcia’s father, took to Instagram to speak out against the news of Ryan testing positive for PEDs following his bout with Devin Haney.
Henry pointed to Haney’s association with SNAC and Victor Conte’s involvement with VADA, the testing organization that uncovered Ryan’s two positive tests during the April 20 fight with Haney.
He also highlighted that referee Harvey Dock, who oversaw the Garcia-Haney fight, had also officiated Haney’s contentious victory over Vasily Lomachenko in 2023.
“SNAC is linked to Victor Conte. They sponsor Devin Haney, who is part of the VADA testing. Victor Conte. Lastly, who refereed the Loma fight when Devin fought him? Who was the referee for Devin vs. Ryan? This is concerning. There’s no safety there. A great performance is now being challenged. They are working hard to strip him of his win,” Henry Garcia shared on Instagram.
Dock faced criticism for allowing Haney to clinch Garcia multiple times without deducting points during their April bout. Dock also penalized Ryan in the seventh round for a foul without prior warning.
Opinions on social media vary regarding Ryan’s positive drug test after the Haney fight.
While some believe it exposes Haney’s use of PEDs to gain an edge against WBC light welterweight champion Garcia, others see it as an attempt to discredit Ryan’s significant win to boost Haney’s career.
Referee Harvey Dock has faced backlash from fans who think he prevented Haney from getting knocked out after the seventh round.
Fans question the timing of the point deduction in the seventh round, suggesting it allowed Haney to recover after a tough situation occurred.
Dock was also criticized for not issuing a count to Haney in the third round after he hit the canvas in the seventh.
