Ryan Garcia has taken action to clear his name by requesting an analysis of his “B” samples taken during his April 20 bout against Devin Haney. This decision follows the discovery of the banned substance Ostarine [Enobosarm] in urine samples collected on April 19 and post-fight on April 20, casting doubt on Garcia’s victory. The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) is now investigating the matter.
Garcia, represented by Global Sports Advocates, LLC, has until May 11 to submit the request. If the “B” samples yield similar results, Garcia could face penalties like suspension, fines, or even having the fight outcome changed to a No-Decision.
Responding to the accusations, Garcia denies ever using steroids and attributes the positive test to a possible contamination, stating he rarely consumes supplements. The banned substance, Enobosarm, is a type of selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency since 2008.
If the test results are upheld, Garcia will have to present his case to the NYSAC for a final ruling. Haney, understandably upset by the situation, has accused Garcia of cheating and disrespecting the sport of boxing. The analysis of the “B” samples will determine Garcia’s next course of action in this unfolding controversy.
