Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, WWE has continued its controversial association with Saudi Arabia since 2018, leading to two premium live events annually. Turki Alalshikh hinted at an upcoming announcement regarding an extension of the existing 10-year agreement and expressed interest in hosting major WWE events like the Royal Rumble and possibly WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia.
During TKO’s first-quarter earnings call, Mark Shapiro provided insights into the future of WWE shows in Saudi Arabia. He recognized WWE’s positive relationship with the Kingdom, emphasizing the efforts of WWE President Nick Khan in maintaining the connection after Vince McMahon stepped down. While Shapiro indicated that the number of premium live events per year is unlikely to exceed two, he mentioned plans to elevate the events to have a greater impact. Although WrestleMania in Saudi Arabia may not be imminent, Shapiro’s remarks hint at the potential for significant WWE events in the Kingdom.
Thus far, WWE has organized 10 premium live events in Saudi Arabia, with the upcoming 11th event set for May 25.
