Adam Copeland, who currently holds the AEW TNT Championship, has defended his title against various challengers since joining AEW in 2023. However, his wrestling return could have happened much earlier.

In a recent appearance on the “Insight” podcast, Copeland revealed that he was in talks with AEW for a possible return in 2020, before eventually making his comeback with WWE.
Initially, Copeland was not cleared by doctors for in-ring action, but as he gained clearance, negotiations with both AEW and WWE advanced.
After deliberating between the two wrestling companies, a conversation with Vince McMahon swayed Copeland towards choosing WWE for his return.

McMahon’s assurance that Copeland’s return should happen in WWE gave him the confidence to opt for the familiar territory rather than starting afresh elsewhere.
Despite the initial consideration of AEW, Copeland ultimately believed his comeback was best suited for WWE, especially with the opportunity to enter the rich history of his character.
