Jones, however, faced obstacles such as injuries and delays in defending his title against Stipe Miocic. Controversy emerged when interim champion Tom Aspinall was being considered for a title shot over Jones. Despite this, the consensus was that it was the right moment for Jones to relinquish his 205-pound crown.
Former champion Jan Blachowicz was next in line to face Jones, only to be disappointed by Jones vacating the belt. Blachowicz still harbors resentment towards Jones, alleging that he moved to Heavyweight to avoid a potential loss against him. Jones responded to these accusations online.
Jones expressed bewilderment at Blachowicz’s assertions and undermined him as a transient adversary. In retaliation, Blachowicz accused Jones of fear.
Both fighters are presently on the mend from respective injuries, with Jones sustaining a torn pectoral muscle and Blachowicz undergoing shoulder surgery. While they are expected to return to action later this year, their paths will not cross in the immediate future.
