Peter Kahn has successfully won a legal case against George Kambosos Jr., according to documents obtained by The Ring. The lawsuit was filed in Broward County, Florida on October 13, 2022. Kahn was granted $350,000 in compensation for breach of contract and lost earnings. The final decision was made on April 4, and writs of garnishment were sent to DiBella Entertainment and Top Rank on May 6, instructing them to withhold money owed to Kambosos Jr. to pay Kahn.
The legal dispute, spanning over 500 days before a resolution was reached, revolved around Kambosos failing to pay Kahn the agreed 10% share of his earnings following his win over Teofimo Lopez for the undisputed lightweight world championship. Kambosos’ ex-trainer, Javiel Centeno, has also filed a lawsuit claiming $280,000 in lost wages, further complicating Kambosos’ financial status.
Kahn, who played a key role in advancing Kambosos’ career and securing a shot at the IBF title, had an informal agreement with the boxer but was not fully compensated as per their arrangement. Even after Kambosos tried to end their partnership in a letter on October 3, Kahn persisted in seeking fair recompense for his contributions.
This legal battle highlights the complexities and hurdles in the boxing industry, underscoring the significance of clear contractual terms and the repercussions of not honoring them. Ultimately, Kahn’s unwavering determination to receive what he was rightfully entitled to prevailed in the legal proceedings.
