Khamzat Chimaev is getting ready for his chance to compete for a UFC title by facing former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker in a five-round main event scheduled for June. Both fighters are showcased on the event poster for the upcoming UFC Saudi Arabia tournament.
Whittaker and Chimaev will battle it out in the main event on June 22 at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. Check out the official UFC Saudi Arabia poster displayed below.
Upon the announcement of the fight by UFC CEO Dana White, it was mentioned that the victor would earn a chance to compete for the 185-pound title in their subsequent bout. However, similar to past occurrences, this may change – such as in Chimaev’s prior win against Kamaru Usman at UFC 294, which was initially set as a No. 1 contender bout before the event in October last year. Chimaev secured a victory over Usman by a majority decision, enhancing his professional record to 13-0.
Whittaker made a comeback following a loss to current champion Dricus du Plessis at UFC 290, securing a unanimous decision victory over Paulo Costa at UFC 298 in February.
UFC Saudi Arabia will also include a significant showdown in the heavyweight division featuring recent interim title contender Sergei Pavlovich and Alexander Volkov.
