Justin Figueroa, holding an unblemished record of 8-0, sought to uphold his perfect streak on Saturday night in Atlantic City against Antoni Armas, who stood at 13-7 and aimed to surprise the crowd at the Tropicana Resort and Casino. Figueroa started cautiously in the first round and ramped up the pressure effectively in the second round until Armas managed to briefly drop him in the final moments of the round.
Though faced with this challenge, Figueroa came back strong in the third round and delivered an active performance in the fourth. However, Armas suffered a shoulder injury and was unable to continue, leading to Figueroa’s victory by technical knockout.
After the Figueroa-Armas bout, the main event of the Boxing Insider Promotions’ lineup unfolded, starring John Leonardo boasting a record of 10-1-1 against Frank Gonzalez, who held a record of 12-5, in an eight-round showdown in the junior featherweight category. The initial round was a closely matched affair, with Leonardo seizing command in the following round. The third round proved to be another tight contest.
Leonardo showcased dominance in the fourth round, although the fight remained competitive. The fifth round saw both fighters engaging in close exchanges, with Leonardo landing impactful blows towards the round’s end. In the sixth round, Leonardo inflicted damage on Gonzalez and continued to apply pressure until Gonzalez hit the canvas, leading the referee to halt the contest.
