Ronda Rousey found satisfaction in watching Travis Browne defeat her former boyfriend, prompting his retirement.
Prior to her retirement from MMA and marriage to Browne, Rousey was romantically involved with former UFC heavyweight contender Brendan Schaub.
While Rousey has largely kept quiet about her time with Schaub, he has been more vocal about their past relationship on various podcasts. Recently, Rousey shared insights into their relationship in her new book, Our Fight: A Memoir.
In her book, Rousey details the challenges she faced while dating Schaub, providing enough information for fans to easily identify him.
“Travis had been training with us for a while when it was announced that his first official fight as a team member would be against my ex-boyfriend,” Rousey wrote. “My ex enjoyed playing mind games with me before my fights and insisted that we keep our relationship discreet to avoid being known as ‘Ronda Rousey’s Boyfriend.’
“As Travis prepared for the matchup, I tried to remain neutral,” she continued. “I didn’t want to get too emotionally involved. This wasn’t about me. While I hoped for Travis to win, I was focused on my own training. However, when I watched the fight on live TV, I couldn’t control my emotions. I found myself screaming, ‘Get him, Travis!’ while aggressively punching the arm of the person next to me on the couch.”
Ronda Rousey relishes ex-boyfriend’s defeat
After Browne’s victory over Schaub, Browne fought six more times with a record of 1-5, experiencing defeats to Velasquez, Lewis, and Oleinik. Browne retired with a record of 18-7-1.
Following his loss to Browne, Schaub retired from MMA a year later with a record of 10-5.
“When Travis knocked him out in the first round, I thought it couldn’t get any more satisfying,” Rousey recalled. “My ex was defenseless on the ground while Travis continued to strike him. Referee stopped the fight, and then Travis, standing over my ex’s incapacitated body, whispered something in his ear. Although the words weren’t audible on camera, I imagined Travis saying, ‘Ronda sends her regards.’”
