Islam Makhachev is feeling optimistic about his chances against Leon Edwards. He is set to defend his lightweight world title at UFC 302 against Dustin Poirier on June 1. Makhachev has his sights set on potentially becoming a champ-champ if he successfully defends his title.
During a chat with UFC legend Daniel Cormier, Makhachev mentioned the possibility of a showdown with Leon Edwards inside the Octagon for another championship belt. He recounted a past sparring session with Edwards, where he found it easy to take Edwards down due to his perceived lack of wrestling expertise at that time.
Despite being offered a fight against Edwards at UFC 300, Makhachev turned it down citing Ramadan commitments. Instead, he is gearing up to face Dustin Poirier at UFC 302. On the other hand, Edwards is scheduled to defend his title against Belal Muhammad at UFC 304 in July.
Makhachev remains focused on his goal of securing a second title and is fully concentrating on his upcoming bout with Poirier.
