Following his victory over Oleksandr Gvozyk at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, David Benavidez asserted that he had controlled every round in his first bout at 175 pounds. However, some observers did not view the fight as a complete domination. Gvozdyk managed to pressure Benavidez from the seventh round onwards, indicating that it was not Benavidez’s most remarkable showing. Despite this, Benavidez secured the win and clinched the WBC interim light heavyweight title. Yet, many social media users disagreed with the judges’ generous scoring margins.

Following the match, Benavidez called out Canelo Alvarez, hinting at a potential return to the 168-pound division. This move puzzled fans, given that Benavidez had moved up to 175 pounds specifically to vie for the undisputed championship in that weight class. During the post-fight press conference, Benavidez discussed his victory despite sustaining cuts and hand injuries. He expressed his willingness to take on any challenger in the light heavyweight division to prove himself as the ‘Mexican Monster.’ The likelihood of a showdown with Canelo or a return to 168 pounds remains uncertain.
