It has been nearly seven years since Lamont Roach, a native of Maryland, last fought in the “DMV” region. Following his impressive ten-round win over Rey Perez at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland, Roach made a pledge to the audience that he would come back home one day to defend a world title in front of them. That pledge will come to fruition this Friday when the 28-year-old Roach defends his WBA junior lightweight title against unbeaten Irish challenger Feargal McCrory at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington D.C., just 20 miles from Roach’s hometown of Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Roach, currently ranked fourth by The Ring in the 130-pound category, clinched the title in his previous bout by defeating Hector Luis Garcia in the twelfth round. This marks Roach’s inaugural title defense, and he is resolute in showcasing his abilities further. His opponent, McCrory, boasts a record of 16-0 with 8 knockouts and is facing a considerable leap in competition for his first shot at a world title. The event will also showcase the professional debut of Roach’s younger brother Jordan Roach, who is anticipated to make a notable impact in the realm of boxing.

Roach has voiced his aspirations of becoming a unified world champion and making a lasting imprint on the boxing landscape. Despite encountering hurdles in arranging a potential unification fight with WBC champion O’Shaquie Foster, Roach remains dedicated to realizing his objectives. As he gears up for his imminent bout, Roach is appreciative of the backing from his family and local supporters, who have eagerly awaited his return to the boxing ring.
