Over the weekend, Shakur Stevenson defended his WBC lightweight title against Artem Harutyunyan at the Prudential Center in Newark. Despite winning the fight convincingly, Stevenson didn’t impress the crowd, leading to some negative reactions. While Stevenson is an excellent boxer, some fans feel he lacks the knockout power and excitement they look for in a fighter.
Critics have advised Stevenson to be more aggressive and throw more punches, but it appears he’s content with his current style. Like Vasyl Lomachenko, Stevenson isn’t likely to become a brawler in the ring. Despite not being the flashiest fighter, Stevenson is still highly skilled and regarded as one of the best in the sport.
Despite the criticisms, Stevenson holds a title and will defend it against challengers. While fans may prefer fighters with different styles, Stevenson’s talent and abilities are undeniable.
