Top Rank has officially confirmed that Naoya Inoue, the current undisputed champion in the 122-pound category and ranked No. 2 pound-for-pound fighter by The Ring, is set to battle TJ Doheny in a 12-round fight on September 3 in Tokyo, Japan. This match will be the main event of a Lemino/ESPN+ show at the Ariake Arena.
In his recent victories, Inoue conquered Luis Nery in May and achieved complete unification of the 122-pound division in December. His next bout against Doheny is eagerly awaited, given Inoue’s impressive streak of knockout victories in his last eight fights. Promoter Bob Arum lauded Inoue’s skills and personality, hailing him as a remarkable talent and potentially the greatest fighter of our time.
Doheny, a former IBF world champion in the 122-pound category, aims to overthrow Inoue in what promises to be a thrilling clash. The event will also showcase other prominent fights, with Yoshiki Takei defending his WBO world bantamweight title and Ismael Barroso defending his interim WBA 140-pound title.
The fight card will be jointly promoted by Ohashi Promotions and Top Rank. Francisco A. Salazar, an experienced boxing reporter since 2000, will be providing coverage of the event.
