Errol Spence Jr. is getting ready to take on a new challenge in the junior middleweight class as he aims to fight Sebastian Fundora for the WBC and WBO championship titles in November. Although the bout is scheduled for November, negotiations are still in progress.
Spence, a former welterweight titleholder, has already begun shedding weight for the upcoming fight, unlike his previous struggles to meet weight requirements for his recent matches. Reports suggest that he entered training camp with a higher weight, which made it challenging to meet the 147-pound limit in the past.
Moving up to 154 pounds should make Spence’s training camp more manageable and his preparation smoother for his showdown with Fundora. Lately, Spence has appeared drained during weigh-ins, but moving up in weight may help him regain his peak performance.
In a showdown against Fundora, who stands tall at 6’6″, Spence might have the chance to dominate the fight and claim the junior middleweight titles possibly in less than six rounds. With the move up, Spence could have control over selecting his opponents in the division, with a potential future match against Vergil Ortiz Jr.
When it comes to a potential rematch with Terence Crawford, Spence could be looking towards a final fight with Canelo Alvarez at 168 pounds, potentially backed by Turki Alalshikh. If the Alvarez fight doesn’t materialize, a rematch with Crawford might be on the horizon, considering their past encounters in the ring. Nonetheless, Spence has showcased his prowess as a fighter and is eager to tackle the upcoming challenges.
