Hamdy Abdelwahab is facing consequences once again for not passing a drug test. The UFC’s anti-doping program disclosed that he will be sidelined for six months due to the presence of exogenous testosterone discovered in several samples collected this year. The Combat Sports Anti-Doping agency disclosed that Abdelwahab did not pass three separate tests on March 23, May 3, and May 23. Since he was not initially informed about the first failed test and the third failure was attributed to residual traces, all three incidents were combined into one violation.

This is not the first instance where Abdelwahab has encountered issues with drug testing. Back in 2022, he was handed a two-year suspension by USADA for testing positive for the anabolic agent metenolone and its metabolite in two drug screenings prior to his UFC debut. Additionally, he faced a tampering charge for not disclosing his use of a banned substance.

In contrast to his previous misstep in 2022, Abdelwahab was able to provide proof of a contaminated dietary supplement after being informed of his recent failure. Typically, this kind of situation would result in a three-month suspension. However, since he was still serving his penalty from the previous violation, the suspension was extended to six months. Although his prior suspension came to an end on July 30, the new suspension implies that he will not be able to compete until Jan. 30, 2025.
