According to Tim Bradley, Canelo Alvarez is likely to avoid facing Christian Mbilli following Mbilli’s dominant win over Sergiy Derevyanchenko in Quebec City, Canada.
Mbilli, who remains unbeaten with 28 victories and 23 knockouts, took charge in the fight against Derevyanchenko, who was fighting at 168 pounds for only the third time. After the match, Mbilli voiced his ambition to compete for a world title and intends to be present at Canelo’s upcoming fight against Edgar Berlanga to put pressure on the champion.
Although Canelo has not disclosed his next opponent post-Berlanga, it seems improbable that Mbilli is Canelo’s top choice. Bradley advises Mbilli and his team not to rely on securing a title shot against Canelo.
Despite ultimately losing the fight, commentators commended Derevyanchenko for enduring Mbilli’s punishment with bravery. Bradley expressed worries about Derevyanchenko’s future in boxing, hinting at potential long-term consequences from the significant damage he sustained. Bradley speculated that Derevyanchenko might decide against returning to the ring after such a punishing loss.
