Tom Aspinall is set to serve as the backup for the upcoming heavyweight championship battle between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic this autumn. Though the UFC has not officially announced the exact date of the Jones vs. Miocic showdown, all signs point to it happening at UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden on November 9. Aspinall, the interim heavyweight titleholder, has stated his willingness to step in if either competitor is unfit to fight on the agreed date. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Aspinall revealed that the UFC has reached out to him to be the replacement for the event.

Originally planned for UFC 295 last year, the Jones vs. Miocic clash was delayed due to an injury sustained by Jones. Aspinall capitalized on the opportunity to claim the interim title with a triumph over Sergei Pavlovich and subsequently defended his championship against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304. While there is uncertainty about the Jones vs. Aspinall face-off, with Jones suggesting retirement, Aspinall remains undeterred and is at peace with the notion of being the athlete who ends Jon Jones’ career without ever having to confront him in the Octagon.
