Jon Jones, a legendary figure in combat sports, might conclude his career without meeting interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall in the Octagon. Matt Brown argues that Jones has put in over 16 years of dominance in the UFC and has earned the right to choose his opponents. Currently gearing up for a showdown with Stipe Miocic, Jones is set to compete at UFC 309 in New York this November.

Aspinall, who claimed the interim heavyweight title and defended it with a knockout victory over Curtis Blaydes, is keen on a matchup with Jones. However, Brown believes that any concerns about Jones avoiding Aspinall will not hold much weight in the long run.

Similar instances have occurred previously, like when Georges St-Pierre vacated his middleweight title due to health issues post his win over Michael Bisping. Despite expectations for a bout with interim champ Robert Whittaker, St-Pierre’s decision didn’t have a lasting impact.

Aspinall can strive for a fight with Jones to increase his visibility, but Brown is of the opinion that Jones’s legacy will endure without considering the outcome against Miocic.

Brown firmly states that Jones is the greatest fighter in history, with any doubts arising mainly from past controversies related to prohibited substances. Despite setbacks or scandals, Jones’s status as the GOAT remains unquestioned.
