Reigning ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion Mikey Musumeci is surprised to learn that Gordon Ryan is only a year older than him. Musumeci has established himself as a dominant figure in the BJJ world since his debut in ONE Championship in May 2022, triumphing over respected adversaries like Masakazu Imanari, Osamah Almarwai, Jarred Brooks, Shinya Aoki, and Gabriel Sousa. Throughout his journey, Musumeci has been a vocal opponent of steroid use in the sport, expressing his disapproval of athletes who turn to banned substances to boost their performance.

In a recent appearance on MIGHTYcast with Demetrious Johnson, Musumeci condemned grapplers who misuse steroids, specifically calling out Gordon Ryan for openly admitting to using steroids. Musumeci underlined the harmful effects of steroid use on athletes’ bodies, stressing the significance of maintaining a clean approach and relying on hard work and technical prowess to excel in the sport.

Musumeci also highlighted the prevalent use of steroids in BJJ, disclosing that some of the leading gyms globally are promoting steroid usage among teenage students. This concerning trend has raised alarms within the BJJ community, prompting Musumeci to advocate for necessary changes to tackle this issue as the sport expands further.

Despite the obstacle of his scheduled opponent Kade Ruotolo pulling out from their upcoming match at ONE 168 in Denver, Musumeci is resolute about participating in the event. While there have been no official statements about his new opponent, journalist Nicolas Atkin indicated that a replacement has been arranged for Musumeci’s fight in ‘The Mile High City.’
