Daniel Cormier has reservations about the possibility of Tom Aspinall acting as the standby fighter for UFC 309. Although Dana White has designated Aspinall as the backup for the heavyweight championship match involving Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic, Cormier is skeptical about Aspinall’s readiness to step in if necessary. He cited past scenarios where standby fighters were not given the opportunity to compete for the title, citing a previous incident with Jones and Miocic. Cormier believes that the potential risks involved versus the potential rewards make it improbable for either fighter to square off against Aspinall in the event of an injury. He emphasized that this upcoming fight is anticipated to be the last for both Jones and Miocic, further solidifying his doubts about Aspinall’s chances of challenging for the unified title. Cormier, who has a history with both Jones and Miocic, shared his perspective that Jones might only agree to face Aspinall if Miocic emerges victorious from the fight. UFC 309 is set to take place on Nov. 16 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
