Today (Sat., Sept. 21, 2024), Daniel Dubois achieved a significant victory in his boxing career, live on DAZN pay-per-view (PPV) from Wembley Arena in London, England. He defended his IBF heavyweight title by knocking out former champion Anthony Joshua in the fifth round.
Despite being the underdog in the betting odds and competing in front of a crowd of 96,000 in London, Dubois dominated from the start. He knocked down Joshua near the end of the first round and continued his strong performance by scoring another knockdown in the third round, leaving Joshua visibly hurt.
In the fourth round, Joshua took another heavy hit and appeared to be in trouble. However, he managed to rally back in the fifth round, putting Dubois under pressure in the corner. But in a final decisive moment, Dubois landed a powerful right hand that sent Joshua crashing to the canvas headfirst.
The electrifying finish left the 96,000 boxing fans in shock and amazement. This victory stands as the biggest achievement in Dubois’ career so far. On the other hand, Joshua’s defeat is a significant blow to his reputation in the heavyweight division as he looks ahead to 2025.
