Conor McGregor, a former two-division UFC champion, was recently held accountable for sexual assault in a civil court decision stemming from an incident in 2018. As expected, various figures from the MMA community, including lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, shared their viewpoints on the matter.
The well-documented feud between McGregor and Makhachev’s team, headed by former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov, has been widely publicized. The lead-up to their UFC 229 showdown was marked by personal animosity, underscoring the depth of their rivalry.
McGregor relinquished his 155-pound title due to inactivity, paving the way for Nurmagomedov to vie for the vacant championship at UFC 223. In a well-known incident, McGregor notoriously hurled a dolly at a bus carrying UFC fighters, including Nurmagomedov, following a media day event.
Their faceoff culminated in Nurmagomedov’s victory by submission in the fourth round of their bout. Post-fight, Nurmagomedov leaped into the crowd to confront one of McGregor’s coaches, while members of his team stormed the octagon, creating chaos. Although Makhachev did not step into the cage that night, he was involved in an altercation with Dillon Danis in the audience.
In light of McGregor’s legal situation, Makhachev expressed his disapproval on social media. He wrote, “It was a matter of time till this filthy bastard be exposed. Alcoholic, drug junkie + rapist. Many more facts to come out, trust me!”
