Anthony Joshua recently disclosed his opinions on the greatest heavyweight boxers in history, positioning Muhammad Ali at the pinnacle, closely shadowed by Mike Tyson. When conversing with IFL TV, the former two-time world champion reflected on the illustrious careers of these boxing legends.
Both Joshua and Tyson have encountered setbacks in recent fights. Joshua suffered a defeat at the hands of Daniel Dubois last September in his quest for a third heavyweight title reign. On the other hand, Tyson faced a contentious loss to Jake Paul, falling short on the scorecards in an eight-round match last November in Texas.
In his conversation with IFL TV, Joshua ranked the heavyweight icons, placing Tyson as his second favorite. He lauded Tyson with admiration, expressing:
“Coming in at number two is The Iron Man, the individual whom I would have relished reading comic books about during my childhood. ‘Iron Mike’ Tyson. The specimen with the 19-inch neck, the legs that emphasized the importance of not skipping leg day, and the devastating knockout power with both hands. Iron Mike Tyson unquestionably holds a spot in my top five.”
However, Joshua bestowed the top accolade upon Muhammad Ali, hailing him as:
“The monarch of the ring, the epitome of elegance in the sport, the supreme, Muhammad Ali.”
Ali’s impact transcended the realm of boxing, solidifying his status as a significant cultural icon both within and beyond the confines of the sport.
Regarding Joshua’s trajectory, he is presently concentrating on recuperating from injuries and contemplating his next bout. A quick rematch with Dubois is not in the cards, as Dubois is set to face Joseph Parker in February.
