Boxing enthusiasts had hoped to see legends like “Iron” Mike Tyson and rising star “Sugar” Shakur Stevenson added to the roster of the “Undisputed” video game. Instead, the developers opted to include celebrity fighter Jake Paul and one-hit wonder James “Buster” Douglas in the upcoming DLC pack, scheduled for release on December 12.
It’s interesting to note that both Paul and Douglas have scored wins against Tyson, albeit in very different contexts. This raises questions about whether Steel City Interactive and publisher Deep Silver are subtly criticizing the 58-year-old Tyson for not being part of the “sweet science” lineup.
Regardless, the response from fans has been overwhelmingly negative.
Many have taken to social media to express their frustration. Comments like “Game was already not worth playing but now it’s getting deleted,” and “This is embarrassing,” reflect a significant disappointment among the community. Others have voiced their disbelief that Jake Paul made the cut before any genuine boxers, expressing sentiments such as “Are you serious? You put Jake Paul in the game before adding any more ACTUAL boxers? smh.”
Some fans have gone so far as to express their anger, with remarks like “Mad I can’t uninstall this bullsht again I waited for years for this bullsht f*ck Undisputed,” and “FFS, I’d rather put needles in my eyes… this is awful for real boxing fans.” There is also frustration regarding the paid DLC being released before fixing existing gameplay issues, with one user stating, “Paid DLC drops before you’ve fixed the fundamental issues… is insane.”
While the majority of the feedback has been critical, a few commenters have praised the addition of Paul, calling it “brilliant.”
Paul himself commented on his inclusion, saying, “I’ve been breaking barriers and making history in real life, so it’s only fitting that I bring the same energy to Undisputed. This isn’t just about being in a video game; it’s about inspiring a new generation of fans…” He expressed excitement for the development team’s attention to detail, adding that he is looking forward to players experiencing his character, “El Gallo de Dorado.”
The DLC will feature a comprehensive breakdown, including Paul and the following packs:
Pack 1: Mexican Legends
Marco Antonio Barrera
Erik Morales
Juan Manuel Márquez
Pack 2: Hard-Hitting Heavyweights
James “Buster” Douglas
Otto Wallin
Zhilei Zhang
New outfits will also be introduced for each fighter, along with two cosmetic packs that offer alternate outfits for notable fighters like Deontay Wilder, Roy Jones Jr., Sunny Edwards, Terence Crawford, Vasilii Lomachenko, and Seniesa Estrada.
In addition to the paid DLC, existing and new players will benefit from free content and game updates. These updates include two brand new “Ring of Fire” outfits for Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, promotional to their upcoming rematch in December, alongside new venues, animations for knockouts and knockdowns, weight class adjustments in Career Mode, and various audio and UI changes.
“Undisputed” is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
