The New Day entertained WWE fans for a decade with their memorable and entertaining moments. However, on the December 2nd episode of Monday Night RAW, the group split up for good after Big E was kicked out. Unsurprisingly, Kofi Kingston has defended the harsh promo he and Xavier Woods delivered against Big E.
While speaking on The Battleground podcast, Kofi Kingston defended everything he and Xavier Woods said about Big E during their RAW promo. He explained that everything they said was true, and they didn’t lie about anything. People got upset because they didn’t want to hear it, but Kofi said everything was completely honest. He pointed out that when people hear something they don’t like, they get mad, but that’s how it goes.
Kingston stated that Big E could have rejoined the group sooner, instead of letting things fall apart over the months. He also said it was disappointing that so many people wanted him and Woods to turn on each other, especially since they have always shown what true friendship and brotherhood mean. He noted that they have stayed together longer than any other team in WWE, and it bothered Kofi that people wanted to see them break up.
“Here’s the thing, everything we said out there was the truth. We didn’t lie about anything. People just didn’t want to hear it, and they got mad, but everything we said was 100% honest. That’s how we’ve always been. We never lie to the people. But for whatever reason, when people hear something they don’t like, they get upset. You mentioned that he was mad at us, but the fact is, he’s really mad at E because E could’ve been back with us a lot sooner than the four or five months we watched everything fall apart.
Everyone online was saying things, and one thing, too, the number of people who wanted me and Woods to turn on each other is disgusting. We’ve done nothing but embody what true brotherhood and friendship are supposed to be. When you talk about groups in WWE, talk about tag teams—there’s never been a team that’s stayed together as long as we have. So the fact that people wanted to see us break up is kind of nauseating.
Kingston said that their group was always about “we before me,” meaning the group always came first, no matter what. They sacrificed time with their families for the group, and Kofi even missed a birthday. He added that Big E’s neck injury didn’t change that rule — it didn’t give him the right to put himself above the group.
“At the end of the day, we’re doing this for the people, trying to show what brotherhood, friendship, and selflessness look like. Woods, E, and I always had an agreement, and forgive me for repeating what I said on TV, but for those who didn’t hear it, our group has always been about ‘we before me,’ no matter what. There was no exception, like, ‘we before me, unless I have a neck injury.’
We sacrificed time with our families for the group. I missed a birthday a few days ago, and I’ve missed a lot of things because I’ve been out there making the group as big as it can be. That’s a sacrifice we made, always putting the group first. So yes, Big E broke his neck, but so what? That doesn’t give him the right to put himself before the group, and people don’t want to hear that, but that’s how we feel.”
Kofi Kingston then explained that in an argument, you know you’re right when you present your case with facts. But when they tried to make their point, the reply was just insults like “screw you” or “your bird chest” or even “the King of the Ring is a Burger King crown.” He said they don’t need anyone to cook for them, as they can do it themselves, and even Big E cooked on his own when he went home.
“And in an argument, you know you’re right when you present your case with facts and wait for a rebuttal. But the rebuttal was just insults—‘screw you,’ ‘your bird chest,’ ‘I’m glad Brock beat you,’ or ‘the King of the Ring is a Burger King crown,’ or ‘I’m not going to cook for you anymore.’ What does that even mean? We don’t need anyone to cook for us. We can cook just fine on our own. And E went home and cooked too. So, you see how much we’re cooking in that situation.”
While Kofi acknowledged the importance of the WWE fans, he made it clear that they don’t really care about people’s opinions. They are the ones in the situation, and they know what’s going on. Their decisions are based on what they know, and that’s what matters.
“We don’t need anyone to cook for us, but yes, without the fans, the WWE universe wouldn’t exist, and they’re important in that aspect. But when it comes to people’s opinions, we don’t really care. We’re the ones in the situation, and we know what’s going on. We know the deal, we know the score, and we take all of that into consideration when we make our decisions. That’s what matters.”
During The New Day’s 10-year anniversary celebration, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods shocked fans with their horrible treatment of Big E. They called him out for not supporting them and even made light of his neck injury. The emotional scene left fans devastated as Big E was turned away by his longtime friends.
It was also reported that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods are now internally listed as heels. It remains to be seen how WWE will book their storyline as we head towards 2025, since it’s clear Big E will have a part to play in the grand scheme of things.
