Tommy Fury will not be facing Darren Till on January 18th, 2025. The boxing match was called off after Till stated he would use MMA moves if he began to lose.
Fury shared his reasons for withdrawing from the fight:
“I can’t believe I’m writing this but I am now not fighting Darren Till on January 18th, 2025. The one simple reason is that Darren has repeatedly declared he does not want to abide by professional boxing rules. He has said that if he is losing the fight, he will resort to kicking and other MMA tactics. I am a professional boxer, and after being out of the ring for over a year, I wanted this to be a great BOXING fight for the fans.”
The 25-year-old boxer assured fans that he would find a better opponent and hinted at more promising news soon.
Till, known for his time as a UFC star, is currently training at Rotunda ABC in Liverpool. He claimed that he made those threats only to hype up the fight and to get into Fury’s head. Despite the cancellation, Till still hopes to make his professional boxing debut on January 18th and is searching for a new opponent.
A potential replacement emerged quickly. Billy Joe Saunders, a two-weight world champion, expressed his willingness to fight Till. Saunders commented, “Make an offer, I’ll step in. Old fat gypsy boy will take this over from here.”
Saunders has not been in the ring since his defeat to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in 2021, which remains his only loss.
We can expect to learn more about the upcoming developments soon.
