The situation involving Rey Fenix and AEW continues to be the source of controversy, and a new report provides an update.

Fenix has not wrestled for AEW since the AEW Collision taping on July 20, and he has not had a match at all since CMLL’s event on July 26. Over the past few days, Fenix has posted controversial comments on social media. He wrote that “no one stays in a place where they received inhuman treatment”, and he also said that he needed a doctor, and he was ignored. AEW reportedly added injury time to his AEW contract, extending it into 2025.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful (via Fightful Select) reported that AEW elected not to comment on the situation, and they could not comment on medical claims. Sapp writes that multiple AEW sources were surprised by Fenix’s tweets. The report notes that one source said there have long been communication issues, but they had not heard anything that could be considered human. This source heard that Fenix had a problem with a doctor who had not cleared him at one point, but exact contact was not complete. Further details regarding the issues are unclear.

Per Sapp, another AEW source, who claimed to be familiar with the situation, said that the claims were untrue. It was noted that AEW had been upset when they heard that the Lucha Brothers had talks with WWE while they had plenty of time left on their deals.

Penta El Zero recently entered free agency, and he previously claimed that he was in talks with WWE. Sapp writes that WWE has not officially commented on the duo, but it was widely believed that they were planned for a WWE run. As previously reported, AEW learned about these alleged talks in the summer.

Earlier this year, both Penta and Rey Fenix were factored into creative plans throughout the year. The duo and PAC had been planned to win the trios titles before the rumored WWE talks happened. Sapp writes that there were also plans for PAC and Penta to have a run as a team while Fenix was hurt.

Sapp also writes that, as of this writing, Rey Fenix’s status is up in the air. The report cites some AEW sources who believed last week that AEW might give Fenix an early release. However, there is no update on that front. Fenix is scheduled for a Meet and Greet at a House of Glory event later in December, and there is no word on whether he was in contact with AEW about the appearance.

WrestleZone will provide more information as it becomes available.
