Conor McGregor Takes Social Media Jab at Ilia Topuria
McGregor was quick to respond on ‘X’, evidently putting Topuria in his place when comparing both careers.
“Here’s the truth that will hurt all the little wannabe nobodies,” McGregor wrote. “Fighting was too easy for me, I done it all by 27 years old.”
When McGregor says “all,” he is referring to becoming the first UFC fighter to hold two belts simultaneously, successfully transitioning into boxing for a substantial financial gain, and holding several of the highest-grossing pay-per-views in company history. This includes his UFC 229 loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in October 2018, which, to some, marked the beginning of a downward spiral for the Irishman.
McGregor last fought in July 2021, suffering a broken leg during his trilogy match with Dustin Poirier.
This injury was part of a troubling stretch where McGregor managed to win just one fight over a four-year period, with two victories dating back to November 2016.
He was scheduled to headline UFC 303 in June, which was supposed to conclude TUF 31 against fellow contender Michael Chandler. However, weeks before the fight, a toe injury forced a postponement altogether.
Chandler eventually faced Charles Oliveira last month, losing by decision after nearly staging a comeback in the third round.
Whether the long-anticipated fight between McGregor and Chandler will finally take place after three years of waiting remains uncertain. However, McGregor appears eager to return to combat sports sooner rather than later.
For now, only time will tell how McGregor’s future unfolds.
