Jake Paul has shared his insights on how much Jon Jones should seek in the ongoing negotiations for a potential fight against Tom Aspinall in 2025.
UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and interim titleholder Tom Aspinall could face off in the Octagon in 2025. Jones most recently defended his lineal title by defeating Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 last month.
After UFC 309, attention shifted to the highly anticipated match between Jones and Aspinall. UFC CEO Dana White has labeled it the biggest heavyweight fight in the promotion’s history and potentially Jones’ most significant challenge in the Octagon to date.
White has confirmed that the fight between Jones and Aspinall will happen in 2025, despite the ongoing discussions regarding contracts. It seems that negotiations between Jones, White, and the UFC are the primary obstacle preventing the fight’s scheduling.
Various analysts, including UFC commentator Jon Anik, suggest that Jones could earn a record-breaking payout for a fight with Aspinall. Jake Paul, who has had previous interactions with White and the UFC, provided his perspective on what he believes Jones deserves in these negotiations.
In a recent post on X, Paul broke down the financial expectations for Jones in the ongoing UFC discussions. He stated, “Did my math. Understand their hope to have Jon Jones lose so they can create the next man. So…”
Paul evaluated that “Bones should be getting a $50M guarantee for that fight. And $10 for every PPV buy above 600K. If they offer that to Jon, it’s fair. He should take it.”
To provide a point of reference, Anik suggested a range of $20-$25 million for Jones to agree to the Aspinall fight. As of now, Jones has not made public his desired figure for a return to the Octagon in 2025.
Jones and the UFC could not reach an agreement in 2021 when discussions were underway regarding a potential super fight against then-heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. Jones eventually made his return to the cage last year, capturing the vacant championship against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285.
As a strategic move, Jones has proposed two alternative opponents for his next fight, including a high-profile bout against Alex Pereira. However, White has stated that he will only book Jones against Pereira if he defeats Aspinall to unify the heavyweight titles.
Both Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall are optimistic about booking their showdown in 2025. Aspinall claimed the interim heavyweight championship after Jones withdrew from UFC 295 due to injury. He impressively knocked out Sergei Pavlovich on short notice and then finished Curtis Blaydes in a rare interim title defense at UFC 304.
Jones is often regarded as the greatest UFC fighter of all time following his illustrious career in the Octagon. However, that legacy could be at risk if he does not succeed against Aspinall in their anticipated matchup.
Despite his achievements in boxing, Paul remains attentive to the UFC’s business dynamics, particularly the negotiations led by White and the matchmakers. It remains to be seen whether Paul’s financial predictions will materialize at the UFC negotiation table.
