Oleksandr Usyk triumphed over Tyson Fury in their heavyweight championship rematch. The judges unanimously scored the fight 116-112 in favor of Usyk, securing his victory by unanimous decision.
This bout followed their initial encounter in May, where Usyk emerged victorious by split decision, claiming the title of undisputed heavyweight champion. Although he had to relinquish the IBF belt before this rematch, Usyk still held the WBC, WBA, and WBO titles as he stepped into the ring.
According to ESPN, all three judges unanimously agreed on the scorecards, with Usyk ultimately prevailing after 12 rounds in the ring.
Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya observed the match from ringside and shared his views in an interview with Boxing King Media. He remarked, “I think Usyk pulled it off in the second half of the fight. He came out strong in the second half. I didn’t see Tyson use that many jabs or use his distance. We saw the outcome and Usyk deserved it.”
When questioned about differences in Fury’s performance compared to their first fight, De La Hoya commented, “I don’t think I did. I saw Tyson tired. It’s a testament to Usyk’s abilities inside the ring. Go back to the drawing board.” De La Hoya noticed no significant changes in Fury’s approach and observed that he appeared fatigued, crediting Usyk’s skills for wearing Fury down.
When asked if anyone could defeat Usyk, De La Hoya stated simply, “We all get beat, one way or the other.”
Another boxing icon, Lennox Lewis, was also present at the fight, although his opinion on the result wasn’t included in the report.
Usyk’s victory solidifies his position at the top of the heavyweight division. For Fury to reclaim his titles, he will need to reassess his strategy moving forward.
