Fury Claims Usyk Received ‘Favorable Treatment’ from Judges

Tyson Fury is understandably upset following his second decision loss to heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk earlier today (Sat., Dec. 21, 2024) LIVE on DAZN pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The “Gypsy King” believes he won the high-stakes rematch by “at least three rounds.”

Many observers speculated that the much heavier Fury would be able to assert his dominance over the smaller Usyk, especially after having seven months to prepare for the rematch. Just this past May, Usyk had beaten Fury via split decision, making their familiarity with each other a compelling story leading up to Saturday’s rematch.

From the opening bell, Usyk’s output, footwork, and precision allowed him to control the pace of the fight. While Fury managed to land some effective shots, he did not rely heavily on clinching, which some expected given his significant 55-pound weight advantage. Instead, the former WBC champion utilized a stiff jab and hooks to keep Usyk engaged.

Unfortunately for Fury, Usyk effectively scored enough points to secure a unanimous decision victory on the judges’ scorecards. This result left Fury frustrated; he opted to skip the in-ring interview and instead reserved his thoughts for the post-fight press conference.

“I was quite confident. I thought I had won that fight again,” Fury stated. “I believed I won both fights, but then again I’ve gone on with two losses on my record. There’s not much I can do about it. I can just fight my heart out and do the best I can.”

Fury continued, “Again, I’ll always believe until the day I die that I won that fight.” When questioned about Usyk’s late-round surge, he replied, “Didn’t feel no spirit. I felt a little bit of Christmas spirit in there, and I think he got a little Christmas gift from the judges.”

“It is what it is,” he later remarked. “I’m not going to cry over spilt milk. It’s happened now. I’ve been in boxing my whole life. You can’t change any decisions. When you don’t get the knockout, this is what happens. You can’t guarantee a win.”
