Conor McGregor appears to have reversed his decision to ‘fire’ Mike Perry by expressing support for Perry’s latest callout. Following Perry’s stoppage by Jake Paul in July, McGregor took to social media to announce that Perry was ‘fired’ from BKFC. Although McGregor has recently acquired ownership stakes in the company, questions have arisen about his authority to make such significant decisions.
Initially uncertain about McGregor’s proclamation, it seems Perry may be returning to the ring sooner than anticipated. He attended a recent show in Hollywood, Florida, where it appeared that he received McGregor’s backing during his callout of potential opponents.
After a notable victory over Thiago Alves at KnuckleMania in April, Mike Perry was quickly establishing himself as a fan favorite in BKFC and a top contender for breakout star status. His ascent was abruptly halted when he suffered a series of brutal knockdowns and was ultimately stopped by Jake Paul in a fight he took on short notice, filling in for the injured Mike Tyson.
Despite stepping in on short notice to keep Paul active, the pay-per-view performance was underwhelming, leading fans to question Perry’s decision. Even McGregor didn’t hold back, frequently mentioning on social media that Perry was ‘fired’ from his promotional duties.
In a dramatic tweet, McGregor made his feelings clear to his followers, stating, “Hey Mike you’re released… You’re fired.” He has continued to assert this statement, recently telling The Schmo that negotiations were ongoing but insinuating that Perry was scared of another fighter, calling him out in the process.
Mike Perry, however, has pushed back against McGregor’s claims. He maintained that he too is a part-owner of BKFC, a point of contention between him and McGregor. In a documentary segment promoting his Dirty Boxing Championship, Perry expressed frustration at McGregor’s perceived favoritism and insisted that his own contributions to BKFC were being overlooked.
Perry asserted, “What’s making me mad is everybody sucking his balls… I’m the reason y’all got pumped up right now.” He highlighted the lack of recognition he’s received despite being an active fighter for the promotion and expressed his desire for a matchup against McGregor.
It appears McGregor’s stance may be shifting as he showed support for Perry during a recent event in Florida. While attending the show remotely from Dubai, McGregor’s comments indicated openness to Perry’s callout of former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler.
During the event, Perry openly requested a fight against Lawler, suggesting that they should finally meet in the ring. McGregor’s enthusiastic response seemed to signal a potential reconciliation, saying, “What a show! Perry vs Lawler? Gimme,” as if the past drama of ‘firing’ Perry was forgotten.
