Mark Henry believes that the controversies surrounding Hulk Hogan will not simply disappear on their own.
In an interview with TMZ following WWE RAW’s debut on Netflix, Henry discussed the negative reception Hogan received when he appeared on the broadcast. Fans speculated that the boos were linked to Hogan’s association with President-elect Donald Trump and his history of making racist comments, which surfaced in a leaked audio recording from 2015.
The controversial recording came from a sex tape originally filmed in 2007, where Hogan was heard objecting to his daughter dating a Black man. During the conversation, he used racial slurs, including the word “n*gger,” and admitted to holding racist views.
Henry wasn’t shocked by the audience’s reaction to Hogan on Monday night, pointing out that Hogan, despite his legendary status in wrestling, had never made amends for his past behavior.
Henry reflected on Hogan’s lack of willingness to make amends for his actions following the racism scandal. He noted that while Hogan is often listed among the top wrestlers of all time, his actions and inaction reflect poorly in today’s social climate.
Henry admitted that he had no personal issues with Hogan before the controversy, emphasizing his belief in second chances. He expressed disappointment in Hogan’s refusal to move forward and address the past, explaining that such issues won’t resolve themselves merely by ignoring them.
Though Henry never discussed the scandal directly with Hogan, he emphasized Hogan’s belief that the controversy would eventually dissipate. Henry even offered to assist Hogan in repairing his image, but Hogan showed no interest.
Henry suggested initiatives like visiting Black colleges and law schools to explain his actions, an idea Hogan did not embrace.
In response to the scandal, WWE severed ties with Hogan, even removing him from the Hall of Fame. However, Hogan was reinstated in 2018 and spoke to the WWE roster before that year’s Extreme Rules event. Stars like The New Day and Titus O’Neil issued statements regarding Hogan’s return.
The New Day stated they wouldn’t align with Hogan until he demonstrated real change, while O’Neil supported second chances but criticized Hogan’s apology for lacking sincerity.
Hogan has not made any public remarks about his RAW appearance but reportedly was “surprised and disappointed” by the negative crowd reaction.
