Michael Bisping thinks Charles Oliveira needs a more calculated approach in his rematch with UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev.
Oliveira (34-9 MMA, 22-9 UFC) takes on Makhachev (24-1 MMA, 13-1 UFC) in the main event of UFC 294 on October 21st at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. It was reversed. In his first title fight last October, Oliveira was submitted by Makhachev in the second round at UFC 280. Oliveira’s aggressive style has paid off with finishes over Michael Chandler, Dustin Poirier, Justin Gaethje and Beneil Dariş, but Bisping says, “Do the Bronx.” He cannot adopt the same strategy against Makhachev.
“Charles has to have a game plan,” Bisping said in an interview. YouTube channel. “He can’t just go forward with offensive momentum. He can’t just wing it. I mean, at the end of the day, when you have two fighters like that in an all-out brawl, If Charles is doing it, it’s a coin toss, right?
“One punch changes everything. So you have to have a game plan. As Mike Tyson said, “Everyone has a game plan until they get punched in the face.”
Bisping also doesn’t think Oliveira can take too many risks against a grappler like Makhachev.
“Well, he has to use a lot of straight shots,” Bisping continued. “He has to use a lot of punches. Yes, he can throw kicks. Charles is very good at throwing kicks. Against wrestlers, you can’t throw a lot of kicks, you can’t throw leg kicks. People say don’t throw too many, but that’s not the case with Islam getting takedowns. He doesn’t rely on those things. He’s a good enough wrestler to force takedowns on his own. .
“He has to use a lot of jabs, he has to use a lot of straight shots, he has to use fast shots. Very unfortunately for Charles Oliveira, he has to pivot, he’s light on his feet, he’s not strategic. Yes, it has to be very simple. He has to employ some kind of strategy, and that strategy is to avoid clinching early on, not take too many chances, and not even be in range. Avoid violent attacks such as flying knees.
