Colby Covington speaks out about Leon Edwards’ late father during UFC 296 pre-fight press conference (watch here) on Thursday night (December 14, 2023) in Las Vegas, Nevada Just as chaos was about to ensue, things took a turn for the worst. .
Covington was dressed like George Washington, as if he were fending off a British invasion, but he left nothing to the imagination. The controversial welterweight contender launched a verbal attack on nearly everyone on stage. He was in top form, and he was talking without really paying attention to what was actually coming out of his mouth.
During an altercation with Edwards, Covington quickly turned things dark and began talking about dragging the UFC welterweight champion to the “seventh level of hell.” Covington decided to take things a step further and bring up Edwards’ late father, who was murdered in a London nightclub when “Rocky” was only 13 years old.
“I’m going to take you to a place you never want to go on Saturday night,” Covington yelled. “We’re taking you to the seventh layer of hell. While we’re there, let’s talk about what’s going on with your father.”
Even for a brash showman like Covington, this was a scary statement. Of course, Edwards wasn’t happy about the comment and decided to throw a water bottle on stage. He nearly hits Covington in the head. The two welterweights jumped out of their seats and prepared to take the fight, but security quickly intervened.
