Jake Paul and his team found Andre August, a boxer from Houston, Texas, in their search for boxing prospects. When the fight was announced, many boxing fans were unfamiliar with Andre Augusto.
Despite being unknown to most boxing fans, Andre August had an amateur boxing background and had fought 12 professional bouts. On paper, Andre August seemed like a boxing prospect, but his actual experience did not meet that expectation.
Even though Jake Paul took a calculated risk in choosing Andre August as an opponent, it was evident that Augusto was more of a club fighter than a prospect. His 10 professional wins came against opponents with a combined record of 34 wins, 65 losses, and 5 draws, indicating a less competitive track record.
Before facing Jake Paul on December 15th, Andre August had suffered a knockout loss in one of his fights. His opponent, Eric Abraham, has a record of 7 wins, 16 losses, and 3 knockouts. August’s overall record was not as impressive as initially suggested.
Despite pre-fight promotion hype suggesting August’s superior experience, wins, and knockouts, the reality was different. On the night of the match, Andre August seemed hesitant and nervous, while Jake “Problem Child” Paul appeared confident as he made his entrance to the ring with Christmas music playing.
During the fight, Paul dominated, using his jab to land punches to August’s body. Although August showed some signs of life with a solid right hand, Paul’s control of the fight was evident. With 40 seconds left in the first round, Jake Paul landed a powerful uppercut, knocking out Andre August, who fell to the canvas. Paul waved goodbye to his opponent as the referee stopped the fight.
With this victory, Jake Paul (8-1, 5 KOs) officially launches his career as a boxing contender. In a post-fight interview, Paul hinted at an upcoming announcement as he continues his pursuit of becoming a boxing world champion.
