Eddie Hearn has signed promotional free agent Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis to his Matchroom stable and is hoping to fight alongside Davin Haney.
Hearn said the popular Tank (29-0, 27 KOs) from Baltimore is no longer with Mayweather Promotions and would like to talk to him about offering him a lot of money to join the stable.
Hearn hopes to lure and sign popular “face of boxing” Gervonta and then organize a megafight with WBC light welterweight champion Haney.
Eddie said he tried to talk to Tank on the phone but was unsuccessful. He wants to talk to you in person and see if he can make any progress in a one-on-one conversation.
If Hearn is able to sign the 29-year-old Tank, he will likely fight on the DAZN PPV and look to match up against some of the bigger names at 140, starting with Haney and likely a rematch with Ryan Garcia.
Hearn recently took issue with comments made by Tank’s former promoter Leonard Ellerbe about conversations he had with him. He feels Ellerbe has no say in the matter considering Tank is no longer under contract with Mayweather Promotions.
Hearn regrets comments about tank
“What is your occupation? You are not officially associated with Gervonta Davis in any capacity. He has left Mayweather Promotions,” said Eddie Hearn. iFL TV talks about Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions.
“You don’t have a TV contract. You don’t have a fighter. You were trying to get Mickey. [translation: make fun of in an unkind way] Gervonta is boxing on DAZN and Deontay Wilder will be boxing on DAZN this weekend. Everyone is boxing on DAZN. ”
Ellerbe seemed furious to see that Hearn was moving to sign Gervonta Davis, but that Mayweather Promotions was working with the British promoter for a new deal with the company. There seems to be a possibility of re-signing Hearn. If Hearn is able to sign Tank, he may stay for that length of time, but that would put Floyd’s company in a tough spot.
“So, now I’m going to try contacting Gervonta directly? No problem, I’ll do what I want. I’m not going to contact you, right? What does that have to do with you?” Is it? Nothing,” Hahn said.
“he [Ellerbe] Now I’m even more of a fan. Fans have a lot to say about this situation. Something like that.
“I talked to him yesterday,” Hearn said of Gervonta. “I don’t post DMs like Gervonta Davis, but it wasn’t about a contract. We just talked in general. Let me say on the record, I actually said it. Remember my comment? Remember when I said “he is”? [Tank] I’m not a deep thinker. ‘ That made him angry.
“I know how things work. Everyone, especially Leonard and those guys, are going to try to put Tank against me. ‘Oh, Eddie Hearn. He’s like that. Not. He wants to rob you. He wants to do this. He will never pay you right.”
If Tank Davis is a free agent, as Hearn says, it’s strange that Ellerbe would want to talk to him. Why would he say anything since Tank is gone and likely won’t be back on the team?
“So when I said something like that, I said, ‘Did you see what Eddie Hearn said? I don’t trust that guy.’ That’s how boxing works, right? I said, ‘Gervonta. “I was asked about Davis vs. Ryan Garcia and I said, ‘Gervonta Davis will win by stoppage,'” Hearn said.
“I said, ‘One of the reasons Gervonta Davis is so good and so dangerous at the same time is that he’s not a deep thinker.’ So what I mean is, he’s He wasn’t a deep thinker. So I said, “He doesn’t understand clearly,” but that was actually the wrong word.”
It’s good that Hearn is trying to mend his relationship with Tank Davis after he used the wrong word when talking about him. Ideally, Hahn should have published the term back when he first used it, as there was a storm of criticism surrounding the term.
“When I talked to Gervonta, he wasn’t happy with my comments, so he actually said, ‘I stand by my comments, and what I mean by that is, if you don’t like Aff*** If you don’t, you’re a dangerous guy. He’s not going to sit there and say, “Oh, we’re going to fight on Saturday.” I don’t know. This is a dangerous battle. ‘ He’s a savage, which is what makes him so, but he really shouldn’t have used that word. II used the wrong word. On that point, I apologize.” said Hahn.
“In fact, I said to him, ‘I shouldn’t have used that word, but I support the overthinker’ position rather than the ‘underthinker.’ That’s what makes him such a great fighter and a brute,” Hearn said.
Eddie wants to offer Gervonta a lot of money.
“So I want to talk to him and make him an offer, but he doesn’t have a contract. Why wouldn’t you reach out to one of the biggest stars in the world to provide you with absolute sexual satisfaction? **Full of money? What are you afraid of?”
If Hearn is focused on signing Tank Davis with the idea of facing Haney, he doesn’t seem interested in fighting him and giving him more than 20 pounds. So it might not work. For Hearn, it would be better to talk about pitting Tank against Haney. He should choose a 135-pounder instead of a 165-pounder like Haney to entice him to sign with Matchroom.
“I said, ‘Do you want to talk?’ ‘No.’ In my opinion, that in itself shows that he’s not smart,” Hearn said. “You don’t even know what my proposal is. I said to him, ‘Let’s talk.’ Let him talk face to face. ” I respect the man. I think he’s a wonderful person. he’s a great fighter. I respect him as a fighter.
“I watched him win his first world title [Jose] Pedraza. It was great. I just want to pay him a lot of money. Is it that bad? He wants to match Haney against Tank, but I think he’ll play Haney against Tank right now. [Ryan] Garcia. Let’s see if we can do it, and maybe tank battles will come later, ”said Hearn.
