IBF welterweight champion Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is rumored to defend his title against 40-year-old Robert ‘The Ghost’ Guerrero, in what could be his first fight featured on Amazon Prime Video.

According to a tweet by rick glazer, there are “credible rumors” suggesting that Robert Guerrero will be “Boots” Ennis’ next opponent in his first fight on Amazon Prime, which would result in a mismatch of huge proportions.

In response to this, Glazer commented, “A terrible, terrible discrepancy,” expressing concerns over the potential backlash that “Boots” Ennis may face if this fight takes place.

“Please bring him down.” “Guerrero doesn’t shy away from any fight,” said Robert Guerrero in an interview regarding his interest in fighting Jaron Ennis.

“It feels good. Why not? He’s definitely as good as he says he is. It’s important to take that opportunity and showcase it.”

For fans unfamiliar with Guerrero, he gained prominence as a welterweight fighter after defeating Andre Berto in 2012. He then faced Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013, losing in a one-sided 12-round unanimous decision. Guerrero’s career declined after subsequent losses to Keith Thurman, David Emmanuel Peralta, and Omar Figueroa Jr.

Although Guerrero has won his last five fights since 2018 against Adam Mate, Victor Ortiz, Andre Berto, Harbinson Herrera, and Gerard Thomas, the welterweight division is filled with formidable talent, making it unwise for the 26-year-old Ennis to defend against Guerrero, who has only fought once in the past two years and is coming out of a five-year retirement to face the 40-year-old Andre Berto.

Guerrero stated, “I know he’s never been pressured very hard. There were always guys boxing in front of him and he out-boxed them,” emphasizing his belief that no opponent has applied pressure on Boots thus far.

This matchup is reminiscent of a recent event on Showtime, where WBC “interim” super middleweight champion David Benavidez fought an older opponent instead of facing a top contender, akin to David Morrell Jr. being pitted against 35-year-old Demetrius Andrade.

Former two-division world champion Guerrero (38-6-1, 20 KOs) has expressed interest in facing Boots Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs), who won a 10-round unanimous decision over Andre Berto in a recent rematch on December 16th.

Fans are hoping Ennis will face a top-10 contender at 147 pounds for his first fight on Amazon Prime, or possibly move up to 154 pounds to face contenders such as Eriksson Rubin, Tim Tzu, and Brian Mendoza, or someone like Sebastian Fundora.
