Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk missed the birth of his daughter on January 28 in order to train for his fight with Tyson Fury, which was postponed due to an eye injury sustained during sparring.
I missed a milestone, but my motivation burns through
Usyk (21-0, 14 KOs) has missed a lot of fights due to training, and it’s unfortunate that all that time was wasted due to Fury’s injury. This could lead Usyk to seek retribution against Fury when he faces him on May 18th, hoping to get some revenge for what was done to him.
What makes matters worse is whether Fury intentionally pulled out of the fight because he needed more time to train.
Many boxing fans believe that Fury was injured and withdrew from the bout, but some conspiracy theorists believe that Fury suffered an injury after being knocked down multiple times by various sparring partners during camp. I believe it was an intentional action.
Former IBF cruiserweight champion Jay Opetaia dropped Fury twice during camp, leading to rumors that he would pull out of the fight after five rounds. We know Opetaia was sent home quickly, but this is a red flag in the eyes of fans that the rumors about Opetaia dropping Fury like a bad habit were true.
“I sacrificed a lot. I sacrificed all the dates I had with my family. New Year’s, Christmas, my birthday, and my son’s birthday, my second son’s birthday, and of course my daughter’s. It is a birth,” Oleksandr Usyk said in his speech. Press conference Today we will be discussing his fight with Tyson Fury, scheduled for May 18th.
“I am not criticizing anyone, but we have to treat this matter more seriously. This is an important and long-awaited battle for the whole world. You have to treat yourself professionally and spend every moment in the ring with care and respect for your opponent,” Usyk said.
Uncertainty looms over May clash
The fact that The Fury-Ugik fight has been rescheduled for May 18th, but that doesn’t mean it will take place just yet. This is a tentative date, given that the 35-year-old Fury’s healing eyes are likely to open during training camp, forcing further postponements.
His Excellency has said that if either player is absent, he will find a replacement opponent, but the fans do not believe him. They believe the May 18th event will be postponed if Fury is injured again.
