Alexander Volkanovski is known for accepting last-minute fight opportunities.
Despite his recent bout at UFC 294 against Islam Makhachev, where he showcased an impressive performance, he has announced his excitement for another fight at UFC 300, shifting his focus from his featherweight title match to a new challenge against Ilya Topria.
āIām very excited to be fighting in the main event of UFC 300,ā Volkanovski expressed. (From Sports Illustrated). “It’s not going to be a featherweight fight. I think it’s going to be a lightweight opponent, but I’d be happy to face him.”
With the main event for UFC 300 still undetermined, various fighters are vying for the opportunity to compete on April 13th, less than two months away. Although the UFC CEO hasn’t confirmed the headliner yet, Volkanovski remains a potential contender.
Volkanovski acknowledges the significant disparity between his upcoming match at UFC 300 and his impromptu rematch with Makhachev at UFC 294.
“I was not disciplined in the lead-up to that fight, but I don’t anticipate being in that position again,” he stated. “Many people say I’ll fight anyone, anywhere. I know I will. It was a dire situation, the most challenging in the past 13 years. But I persevered.”
“I knew I wasn’t fully prepared, but I was also aware that I wouldn’t win by decision, so I committed to being the most formidable version of myself. There was no way I would last five rounds, so I took a risk.”
The fight concluded with Volkanovski delivering a knockout head kick only three minutes into the match.
Ilya Topria exuded confidence leading up to UFC 298, exhibiting a strong belief in her victory. While Alexander Volkanovski has not been overtly outspoken in the past, his comments regarding his upcoming fight at UFC 300 indicate his confidence in securing an easy and unscathed win.
