Paulo Costa wasn’t the only pro athlete to try a rotation attack Saturday night.
Jordan Stone makes an appearance. He has to watch too much MMA like the rest of us.
Stone is an ECHL hockey player for the Utah Grizzlies. For those of you who don’t know much about hockey (you lose), that’s basically his AA team, in baseball terms, the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche.
The opposing farm team that night was the Wheeling Nailers (great name), and the active opponent was the Shaw Boomhower (also great name).
The two forwards faced off early in the first period in an attempt to energize their teams early. At that moment, Stone unleashed a spinning backfist. The attack attempt partially landed, but looked more like an elbow strike.

However, Stone received an A for effort on this attempt.
The first time we’ve seen such a mixed martial arts crossover on professional ice was in 2017, when then-Anaheim Ducks defenseman Kevin Bieksa landed a stunning Superman punch on then-Flyers defenseman Radko Gudas. Ever since I beat him up.
Indeed, Bieksa still has a wide lead and will probably never be surpassed.
