In Las Vegas, Ovince Saint Preux, known for his UFC light heavyweight career, continues to maintain ties with Tennessee where he previously volunteered.

Originally serving as a linebacker and defensive end for the University from 2001 to 2004, Saint Preux remains intertwined with the team two decades later.

In a recent interview with MMA Junkie and other reporters, Saint Preux expressed his gratitude, “I consider myself fortunate that early in my career, whenever I faced challenges or needed guidance, I could turn to the University of Tennessee.” He further elaborated on instances where he sought assistance from the university staff for support, training, and treatment.

However, Saint Preux isn’t the sole benefactor of his alumni status. Coaches at Tennessee often invite him to address the team, a practice he enjoys and one that resonates with the players.

Reflecting on one such experience, Saint Preux mentioned, “The linebackers coach, who was Haitian during my time at UT, first approached me out of high school. He later requested me to speak to the linebackers. Subsequently, the head coach, John Heupel, extended the invitation to address the entire team. It was heartening to see the players engaged and attentive during my talk.”

As Saint Preux gears up to face Kennedy Nizechuk at UFC Apex Night 239 in Las Vegas, he is set to become the most prolific light heavyweight in the promotion’s history with 25 fights.

Even with the passage of time and numerous matches, Saint Preux maintains a positive outlook, crediting much of it to his alma mater.

Sharing his sentiments, Saint Preux acknowledged, “I still have access to their facilities including the weight room, cold plunge, and trainers. The support I receive from everyone is invaluable. Coach Heupel has also been exceptionally supportive, always offering assistance.”
