Callum Walsh gave Irish fans an early St. Patrick’s Day celebration by stopping Doren Eleusinov in the ninth round at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Walsh (10-0, 8 KOs) claimed victory with 1:56 remaining in the fight, prompting referee Eric Dali to end the bout as Walsh unleashed a series of powerful blows.
Originally from Cork, Ireland, the 23-year-old Walsh currently trains in Hollywood, California, under the guidance of the legendary Freddie Roach.
A standout amateur with six Irish national titles, Walsh made a statement early in the matchup, hurting Eleusinov, a 37-year-old Kazakh based in Brooklyn, with a right hook to the body in the third round.
In the fourth round, Eleusinov faltered, raising his left hand near the end of the round, leading to a stumble.
Eleusinov has now faced defeat in three of his last four fights.
Walsh, previously ranked in the top 15 by both the WBC and IBF at 154 pounds, is expected to climb higher in the rankings following his regional title win from the WBC.
The showdown between Walsh and Eleusinov headlined the 360 Promotions event, broadcast live on UFC Fight Pass.
Notable victories continued as fan-favorite southpaw Feargal McCrory (16-0, 8 KOs) triumphed over Carlos Karlsson (25-8, 16 KOs) in a junior lightweight bout, securing a three-round stoppage at 2:07.
McCrory, a four-time Irish national champion from Coalisland, Northern Ireland, expressed readiness to face tougher competition moving forward.
Following his win, “Mighty” Joe Ward showcased strength in extinguishing Derrick Webster in a light heavyweight match, delivering a decisive blow with a straight left hand that led to a third-round stoppage at 2:25.
Ward, representing Ireland and an Olympian from 2016, continues an 11-fight winning streak following an unfortunate pro debut mishap.
In the co-main event, Cletus Seldin (28-1, 23 KOs) of Brooklyn, New York, secured two significant victories on the undercard, defeating Jose Angulo by majority decision and proposing to his longtime girlfriend in the ring, receiving a unanimous “yes”.
Furthermore, Staten Island’s Reshat Matty (15-0, 8 KOs) commenced his promotional stint as a free agent with a triumph over Irving Macias (15-5, 10 KOs) by unanimous decision.
Nisa Rodriguez, a 2017 National Golden Gloves champion and NYPD officer, commenced her professional career on a positive note, prevailing over Josette Cotton with a unanimous decision in a super middleweight bout.
