Adrien Broner, a former four-division world champion, has confirmed that he will be taking on welterweight Blair Cobbs on May 31st.
The 34-year-old Broner (35-4-1, 24 KOs) is set to face his most prominent adversary in five years since his defeat against Manny Pacquiao. Fans are eager to witness how the match against Cobb (16-1-1, 10 KOs) unfolds.
Broner’s Extended Break and Absence
The upcoming bout on May 31st allows Broner time to get in shape after gaining weight since his last fight with Bill Hutchinson in June. Having been inactive since 2015, Broner’s recent performances have been subpar.
In theory, Broner holds the upper hand in terms of experience and skill, but his lack of recent bouts might work against him. While a defeat won’t prompt Broner to retire, securing victories may pose a challenge unless he faces lesser-known opponents.
Cobbs, entering his 11th year as a pro, hasn’t fought for two years since defeating former light welterweight champion Maurice Hooker in 2022. Despite a strong showing in that match, his last bout saw Alexis Rocha stop him in nine rounds.
“Blair the Flair, my sparring partner, is more skilled than you. I’ll take you down on May 31st,” shared Adrien Broner on Instagram, hinting at his upcoming fight against welterweight Blair Cobbs.
Cobbs: Confident Challenger
“It’s on for May 31st,” Cobbs assured while discussing the upcoming showdown with Broner. Responding to Broner’s comments about his sparring partner, Cobbs expressed confidence in his preparation for the fight.
Cobbs added, “He’s not an easy opponent, and you’ll see him get stopped when I face Blair the Flair. If I have to chase him during the fight, victory is mine. The moment he retreats, the battle is over. I excel as the underdog,” Cobbs emphasized.
