AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland recently compared the operations of All Elite Wrestling and WWE, noting significant distinctions between the two organizations. During a conversation on the “Bootleg Kev” podcast, Strickland highlighted that AEW President Tony Khan places a high priority on showcasing quality wrestling and has structured his company around highlighting in-ring performances. This strategic focus on in-ring action stands in contrast to WWE’s historical emphasis on sports entertainment, according to Strickland.

Strickland pointed out that while WWE has always boasted exceptional talent, their primary focus has been on delivering sports entertainment content. In contrast, AEW sought to offer an alternative that resonates with fans and addresses a gap in the industry. Strickland believes that AEW provides a platform where wrestlers, especially those transitioning from WWE, can exhibit the style of wrestling they genuinely desire, rather than adhering to WWE’s established norms.

Several wrestlers who have made the move to AEW, including Jon Moxley, Bryan Danielson, Adam Cole, and Strickland himself, have encountered a resurgence in their wrestling careers. Strickland also highlighted Christian Cage as an example of a performer who has excelled in AEW, benefitting from Tony Khan’s approach of pushing boundaries and granting creative freedom to talent.

It is clear that AEW’s approach to wrestling has breathed new life into many wrestlers’ careers and provided a refreshing alternative within the industry. Special thanks to “Bootleg Kev” and a shoutout to Wrestling Inc. for the transcription.
