Earlier this week, news came out that Jerry “The King” Lawler’s contract as a broadcaster with WWE had come to an end. Despite this, Lawler still has some ties to the company through his WWE Legend’s deal. Lawler confirmed his departure from WWE’s commentary team and mentioned that he might have already done his last match commentary for them. Jim Ross, Lawler’s former broadcast partner, shared his views on the situation, suggesting that there could still be chances for Lawler to provide his commentary outside of WWE.
Ross shared his thoughts on the recent episode of “Grilling JR,” saying, “I believe that he and I will work together again. I truly think so. Even if it’s just for an appearance… I think having JR and The King together at an event still holds appeal after all these years. So we will have to wait and see how things turn out.” Ross also noted that while there are no definite plans for Lawler to join AEW, he is optimistic about potential opportunities for them to collaborate in the future.
Lawler first joined WWE in 1992 as a full-time wrestler before transitioning into a full-time commentator over the next decade. During his time as a commentator, Lawler partnered with Michael Cole, Byron Saxton, and Jim Ross, among others.
Despite dealing with health issues like a stroke in February 2023 and having knee replacement surgery in March 2024, Lawler is working on his recovery and states that his health is now stable, allowing him to return to work.
In summary, there may be chances for Lawler and Ross to team up in the future, be it on a TV show, a one-time event, or joint appearances. Their chemistry is still strong, and fans can anticipate more exciting collaborations from this iconic pair.
