Alain David Picasso took advantage of an opportunity to shine on the big stage as he secured a victory over former world title challenger Damien Vazquez at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Picasso’s win came in the eight-round bout that was part of the non-televised undercard of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia fight.
At 23 years old, Picasso boasts an impressive record of 28 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw with 16 knockouts.
Throughout the fight, Picasso displayed superior skill and dominance, ultimately leading to the stoppage of the bout at 2:11 of the fifth round due to a relentless flurry of punches.
Golden Boy Promotions President Eric Gomez commended Picasso’s talent and potential in the highly competitive weight class of boxing. Gomez emphasized the importance of Picasso facing experienced opponents like Vazquez for his development as a contender.
Picasso’s recent victories include a unanimous decision win over Eric Lewis on January 27 and a second-round stoppage of Eison Vargas on October 16. With ten knockout victories in his twelve most recent fights, Picasso has been making a mark in the boxing world.
Picasso, who is co-promoted by Golden Boy and Zamphir Boxing, recently made his U.S. debut with a win over Lewis. He also headlined a card in Mexico City, where he stopped Sabelo Ngebinyana after six rounds. Despite his success in boxing, Picasso is currently pursuing a degree in neuroscience at the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
On the other hand, Vazquez, now with a record of 17 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw with 10 knockouts, faced defeat against Picasso. Vazquez, the younger brother of former world champion Israel Vazquez, had won his two previous fights but struggled against Picasso’s onslaught.
Despite a defeat to Rousey Warren in 2021 and Brandon Figueroa in 2020, Vazquez has shown resilience and determination in his boxing career.
